The One-Party Machine

Dallas County is run by a 5–0 One-Party Commissioners Court with no real opposition and no independent oversight. When one political machine holds every seat, transparency becomes optional, accountability becomes rare, and the people of District 2 are left paying the price.

This isn’t about party labels. It’s about power without checks. Without meaningful opposition, the court has operated with little pressure to answer hard questions, justify its spending, or put the interests of regular residents ahead of political insiders.

Without real opposition or independent oversight, the Commissioners Court has been able to:

• Pass hundreds of millions in debt without voter approval — with District 2 shouldering a disproportionate share of that burden (roughly $280 million of the $700 million total cost)

• Raise fees on property owners to fund government social programs

• Direct taxpayer money into special housing deals with long-term government restrictions

• Advise residents not to cooperate with federal immigration authorities

• Oppose public-safety and accountability measures that would have required a minimum of 4,000 police officers and greater resident oversight  

• Hide major decisions behind executive session

• Allow clear conflicts of interest to go unchallenged

• Use official resources to promote radical political networks

• Attack efforts to strengthen election transparency and security

These are not isolated mistakes. They are the predictable result of one-party rule with no checks and balances. 

When all five commissioners come from the same political machine, they have little incentive to question each other’s decisions.  District 2 residents pay the price through higher taxes, weaker election safeguards, questionable spending, and decisions made with minimal public debate or real accountability.  

Because our district carries a disproportionate share of the county’s tax burden, the lack of oversight hits District 2 especially hard — both in total dollars and in what it costs each of us individually. Unilateral decisions on spending, fees, housing, and enforcement are made with little meaningful pushback.

The same lack of independent oversight also allowed the Court to join the broader political establishment in opposing citizen-driven public-safety and accountability measures.

The machine protects itself. District 2 deserves better.

The people of District 2 deserve an independent watchdog on the Commissioners Court — someone with zero conflicts of interest, zero radical associations, and no loyalty to the machine.

In 1776 we fought to be citizens, not subjects.

District 2 needs real oversight. It needs someone willing to ask the hard questions, demand accountability, and put the people of this district first.
